International Theatre NIE: Pim and Theo
Co-productional project of two internationally rewarded companies NIE from Denmark and Koorjamo from Finland.
Both were murdered by extremists. Pim and Theo will explore the opposing but oddly linked lives of these key Dutch political figures and ask what their careers and deaths can tell us about our times. They weren’t afraid to make their opposing political views known. Pim Fortuyn was a far-right Dutch political leader. Theo Van Gogh was a left-wing anarchist film-maker.
This show is inspired by Ian Buruma’s book The Limits of Tolerance.
After the show is finished, the set turns into an exhibition.
NIE connects performers from different countries, nations, traditions and work trainings on author performances inspired by contemporary stories. They create their own theatre language by combining genres and habits while using different theatre methods – story telling, clownesc, animation, music, singing, choir, comedie dell´arte. They work with European contemporary legends in more languages and try to create a theatre for Europe of our dreams.
